This was a brick in the road to get to my topic.  What we did in this project was so dead on to what happed (i wish it wasn’t)

My thesis Part Two

This will be ongoing,

a New Version!

Forecasting with a twist!

There are many examples of technological trends that have followed patterns laid out by science fiction. By researching these past trends I will develop a method through which people and organizations can take works of science fiction and use them to create scenarios and help them make decisions.

Science fiction shows are visions of the future, as writers perceive them. Some of these visions turn into realty, while others do not.  The objects or ideas that do make it into our world are those that are centered on future users and address the needs and requirements of those users.  This is very similar to the way designers work; when they are designing products or services they also address needs and requirements of future users. Designers and writers have the same ‘discovery’ process; what separates the two is that writers do not have the same limitations as designers. Designers have to make their idea feasible, where writers are free to imagine and “create” things that may take 20 years or more to develop.

What is my thesis?

My thesis is Forecasting with a twist.

These ideas will be redefined, changed and reposted, so feel free to comment and critique.  This is only the first steps and I have a long way to go.

Science fiction shows visions of the future.  Some of these visions make it into realty, others do not.  The objects that do make it into our world are those who are centered around future users, and address needs of those users.  This is the same way designers work, when they are designing a product they address needs of users.  Designers and writers have the same discovery process, where the two depart is that that writers do not have the same limitations as designers.  the designers then have to make their idea feasible where as the writers are free to imagine things that may take 20 years to develop.

It has already been shown that this happens, that technological trends can follow patterned laid out by science fiction, my job is to make this relevant to developers and investors.

I am going to create a method in which someone can take works of science fiction and use them to create technological scenarios.

I hope you will all wish me good luck and help me out on this journey!
